Just had a whirlwind of a few days immersed in musical gatherings and workshops/seminars. It’s been so wonderful to connect with other musically creative people and feel incredibly lucky. This week will be a delving into cues for the Romantic Comedy film with new valuable insight from other film composers which I garnered at the Sundance Film Festival composers workshop yesterday. My approach to my first independent film will be extremely focused and it’s especially fortunate to work with a Director that loves music, is a musician and expresses clearly the feel and emotional content he wants in the film. I’m so excited…a big step forward! Other projects include the jazz ensemble, performance in October…a bit of a reprieve on this one…and some arrangements I’m gathering together (and creating) for piano/oboe/cello trio – will be recorded and possibly performed. And yes…I will be the pianist…;-) Another huge step…
So proud of you, and happy for you that you are so immersed in the creation of music. How/where are you getting this jobs? Keep me posted on performances of your works — I’d love to come be in the audience.
Thanks Barbara! The Romantic Comedy is a collaboration with fellow composers – 8 of us – from the Seattle group with our Mentor. So wonderful to work with him again. There’s a 10-12 minute short film I’m doing independently with a local newly organized production company. It’s a David Lynch kind of thing…odd and a little creepy. I’ve connected with two other women instrumentalists who want to play their instruments with whatever I come up with. One is Liza Liu from CSUN. We did our recital the same year! I recently reconnected with her at an event. The oboe player is Mae Crosby, also a composer and wants to get back to playing her oboe. Taking a shot at arranging some piano music into trio form, and coming up with some original music too. The jazz ensemble piece is part of a group of composers in Seattle where we each write something and have it performed. Some work I’m just creating for myself…and the ‘short’ was presented to me last week! I’m very excited about it! Still looking for the day job 🙂 But in the meantime…
